Johnson County/Iowa City Senior Center: Caregiver Stress Workshops Offered

Providing care for a terminally ill (e.g. dementia, cancer, etc.) family member or loved one on a daily basis may cause feelings ranging from joy, anger, helplessness, guilt, worry or isolation. In addition, the physical demands can lead to fatigue or illness of the caregiver. It is important for caregivers to have support while caring for another person. If you would like to learn more about caregiver stress and ways to cope, this informative workshop is for you. These workshops are free and open to the public of all ages.

The presenter is Rebecca Riley, LISW and a doctoral student in counseling psychology at the University of Iowa. Rebecca also provides free one-on-one counseling to adults 50 years of age and over at the Senior Center.

Session 1: Tuesday, January 12, 1 PM in room 202, register for class 1103.401.
Session 2: Tuesday, January 19, 6:30 PM in room 208, register for class 1103.402.

Johnson County Board of Supervisors Candidates’ Forum

The Heritage Agency Johnson County Task Force on Aging will host a Johnson County Board of Supervisors Candidates’ Forum on January 11, 2010 at 2 PM in the Assembly Room of the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, (28 South Linn Street, Iowa City).

One Person Dies in Johnson County Crash

JAMES ALLAN RUDIN, 66, OF CONROY, DIED IN THE CRASH THAT HAPPENED AT 3 P.M. ON DEC. 29, 2009, AT RHINE CREEK WAY, EAST OF JOHNSON IOWA ROAD.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS:
VEHICLE ONE (DRIVEN BY RUDIN) WAS TRAVELLING NORTHWEST ON RHINE CREEK WAY, WHILE NEGOTIATING THE CURVE, AND FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON LEFT THE ROADWAY TO THE WEST WHERE IT ENTERED THE DITCH AND ROLLED, COMING TO REST ON ITS TOP.

Cedar Rapids Man Injured in Interstate 80 Crash

Christopher Jose, 25, of Cedar Rapids, was injured in the crash around 3:40 p.m. today (Nov. 30, 2009) on Interstate 80 at the 241 milemarker. He was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Here’s what happened:
VEHICLE ONE (DRIVEN BY JOSEPH ZIELINSKI, 25, OF CEDAR RAPIDS) WAS TRAVELING EAST BOUND ON I-80 IN THE MIDDLE LANE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO THE RIGHT LANE, VEHICLE ONE STEERED BACK INTO THE MIDDLE LANE TO AVOID A CAR IN THE RIGHT LANE WHEN VEHICLE ONE LOST CONTROL AND SLID INTO THE SOUTH DITCH AND ROLLED.

1 Person Dead, 3 Injured in Johnson County Crash

The crash happened at 5:39 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2009, along Highway 1 near Morse Road.

Richard T. Tobias, 73, of Iowa City, died in the crash.

The following were injured:
ROBERT SIDDELL, 49, OF SOLON (DRIVER OF VEHICLE 2)
JAMES LELAND, 78, OF SOLON (DRIVER OF VEHICLE 3)
EILEEN LELAND, 75, OF SOLON

Here’s what happened:
VEHICLE 1 (DRIVEN BY TOBIAS) AND VEHICLE 2 WERE NORTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 1 WHEN VEH 2 STARTED TO SLOW FOR A FARM TRACTOR PULLING OFF THE ROADWAY, VEH 1 REAR ENDED VEH 2 THEN CROSSED INTO THE WEST DITCH AND CAME BACK OUT ONTO THE RDWY AND STRUCK VEH 3, WHICH WAS SOUTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY 1, HEAD ON, VEH 1 ROLLED BACK INTO THE WEST DITCH, VEHS 2 AND 3 REMAINED ON THE ROADWAY. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
