When the idea for a run through the flood zones of Cedar Rapids was presented, Run the Flood facilitators were told they’d be lucky if they had 200 participants.
But much to their surprise, about 2,000 runners and walkers laced up their shoes on this dreary day and embarked on a 2.5 or 7-mile journey downtown to benefit the Greater Cedar Rapids.

The race began at Greene Square Park and continued through the neighborhoods and businesses that flooded last year.
Shopkeepers peeked out of windows and some of the homeowners came out on their lawns to cheer us on, runners told Eastern Iowa News.
