By Brian Siguenza

You’re invited to help a downtown Cedar Rapids landmark celebrate its grand reopening 16 months after the flood. An open house will take place at the Cherry Building, 329 10th Ave. SE, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.

Coinciding with the grand reopening festivities is the grand opening of the Ceramics Center, which will offer different ceramic art programs in a large studio space on the building’s main floor. There will be art demonstrations, facility tours and refreshments at the open house.

During a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, David Chadima thanked several organizations for their part in helping preserve the historic building.

Cherry Building, Cedar Rapids, Oct. 23, 2009“It’s been a long haul since June 13, 2008, but we’ve made a lot of progress,” said Chadima, whose Thorland Co. owns the Cherry Building. “(It’s) just great to make it this far.”
